Dear Morton Families,
Thank you for your patience as we have worked to decide and plan for the safe and most educationally beneficial beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
After much deliberation and review of all the input gathered, Morton 201 schools will begin the year in remote learning.
The detailed guide to the class schedule, meals, access to support services, health and safety protocols, and more, will be provided by July 30th. In the meantime, here are some details families should know:
- Classes will begin Wednesday, August 19th. During the first three days, August 19th through 21st, students in small groups will be able to attend one scheduled half day in person following IDPH guidelines to meet their teachers and ensure their technology is set up to successfully participate remotely. Details will be provided to parents by school principals.
- School facilities will be open daily on a limited basis, including libraries, auditoriums, and other large spaces for access to Internet connectivity or a supervised, safe and quiet place for students to engage in their coursework. These spaces will not be available for “hanging out,” they will only be used with assigned seating for quiet study and only if social distancing, face covering and other health and safety rules are strictly followed.
- Meals will continue to be grab and go with time allotted in the middle of the school day for students to pick up breakfasts and lunches. Meal pickup locations will be expanded to improve convenience and save our students time. Regular meal pricing must resume at the start of the school year, so please make sure you complete your free or reduced-price meals applications.
- The student school day will run approximately from 8:45 a.m. until 3:10 p.m. every day, and all classes will meet daily at their scheduled times.
As state and local health guidance allows, the district will progress through a hybrid model in which students attend school in person for half of the day, each day, and eventually to full in-person instruction. We will be reviewing the data and guidance every two weeks to make plans for these transitions. If the state and region remain in Phase 4 and it is safe to hold in-person instruction at half capacity, the district may begin the hybrid model after September 18th.
This spring and summer the district worked with committees that included staff and parents, received parent input through survey responses and feedback, received input from students, and worked with local officials and our elementary school partner districts. These coordinated efforts have led us to the decision to open the year in remote learning. We will continue to collaborate with stakeholders as we work to return to in-person instruction as soon as possible.
Your child’s well being and education are always our priorities. I am proud of the accomplishments of our staff and students during remote learning in the spring. Our teachers, aides, secretaries, nurses, maintenance, food service and other staff and partners went the extra mile to maximize our students’ learning under very difficult and uncertain circumstances, and our students demonstrated their usual amazing resilience.
As we all continue to look forward to the time when we can return to school in person and fully regain the connections we value with our students, we are certain that our remote learning plan will be even better than it was in the spring. Thank you.

Gracias.

Illinois State Board of Education guidance for schools in the 2020-21 school year
Illinois State Board of Education guidance for schools in the 2020-21 school year
Update : June 26, 2020 - 7:30pm
A letter from District 201 Superintendent
Dear Mustang Community,
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. This week, the Illinois State Board of Education released guidance for schools on the 2020-21 school year.
This 60-page document has been much anticipated and will go a long way toward answering critical questions all of us share about what the 2020-21 school year will look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, wearing masks, social distancing and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also re-engaging students in the learning process.
Right now, we don’t have all the answers to those questions as this document was released to school districts at the same time it was released to the public, and every district has unique challenges to reopening schools safely. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience as our staff thoroughly reviews this detailed guidance and implements the suggestions into our district’s own transition plan.
District 201 is keenly aware of the urgent need to communicate to families about what to expect next school year and anticipate releasing our own transition plan the week of July 13th.
Our district team has already been discussing options and obtaining the necessary supplies and materials to meet safety and health requirements. This guidance will accelerate those conversations and actions, and I’m confident our district will put forth a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students while maintaining a dynamic learning environment.
Please complete a questionnaire that will assist us in our efforts at this link: https://rb.gy/gwmrt0. Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our entire district navigated a situation together this spring that none of us could have imagined.
I will be in touch soon. In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy your summer.

Querida comunidad Mustang,

Pandemic EBT Application Available - May 1st, 2020
Pandemic EBT Application Available
The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) launched the Pandemic EBT application for families on May 1 at https://abe.illinois.gov/abe/access/. P-EBT is a new special benefit that can help families buy food for their school age children who would normally receive National School Lunch Program (NSLP) free or reduced-priced meals when schools are in session. All families with school age children who attend schools approved for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) are eligible for the benefits as they receive NSLP meals at no charge.
Families that currently receive SNAP benefits do not need to apply for P-EBT benefits. These additional P-EBT benefits will be loaded into Illinois LINK EBT accounts along with regular SNAP benefits. Families who do not currently receive SNAP benefits but do have children who receive NSLP free or reduced-priced meals will need to apply directly with IDHS. The fastest way for families to receive benefits is to complete the application for P-EBT available online (Click “Apply for Benefits” at the link.) A paper application in English and Spanish is also available and can be submitted by email to DHS.FCS.PEBT@illinois.gov. IDHS created a flyer to help families with the application process. We are asking NSLP sponsors to share this flyer with their families.
ISBE is working in partnership with IDHS to ensure that this validation is available for all NSLP sponsors, both public and non-public. Thank you to all the schools that participate in the NSLP for submitting data by the April 17 deadline. We are asking that you please continue to verify that count, so that all families who are eligible can access the additional financial support provided by P-EBT. Instructions for this crucial verification can be found online.
If NSLP sponsors need assistance with the data submission/update, please email the ISBE Nutrition Department at cnp@isbe.net. If families need technical assistance with the application, please direct them to email IDHS at DHS.FCS.PEBT@illinois.gov.

Letter to Mustang Seniors
Dear Mustang Seniors and Families,
First, I would like to express how much we all feel for you in what is supposed to be one of the most memorable times of your lives. It certainly is memorable, but not in the ways any of us wanted.
I am writing to provide important updates and to ask for input on some options for Prom and Graduation if we are not able to hold them before the end of summer. This is a long message, but we want to provide as many details as we have, at this point. As you read all this information, remember, in-person events could be forbidden for health reasons for the foreseeable future. Thank you in advance for all the patience and support you have shown us during a challenging time for everyone. We are doing everything we can to provide our seniors the recognition they deserve.
Dr. Tim Truesdale
Superintendent
Prom
The Prom scheduled for May 20, 2020 is postponed.
Graduation
Due to the extension of the statewide stay at home order through May, the May 23, 2020 Commencement is officially postponed.
What We Can and Will Do For Sure - Virtual Commencement Celebration
The district is investigating several options for Graduation. The option we have available to us for certain is a Virtual Commencement Celebration. This way, if we are unable to hold a traditional commencement, our seniors will have some form of recognition for their four years of hard work.
The virtual celebration will be live streamed for graduates and families to view at home. It involves no in-person interaction and no awarding of diplomas, in person. The plan is:
A pre-recorded ceremony that includes as many elements of the real commencement as possible, including:
- Performance of the Star Spangled Banner by a graduate;
- Welcome address by the Principal
- Student remarks by three graduates
- Farewell address by the Superintendent
- Certification of the Class of 2020 by the Board of Education
- A slide show of graduates’ photos in caps and gowns
- Senior tributes from parents scrolling on screen throughout the ceremony
Other notes:
- Graduates who did not take a cap and gown photo earlier this year will be notified of a date in the next two weeks to have a photo taken at the school for inclusion in the video.
- All families will receive a copy of the video as a keepsake, and a Commencement program.
- Forms for families to submit Senior Tributes is in a separate document. Parents should follow the link they were emailed. The deadline is May 8th. Please submit only one per graduate.
Dependent on Government Permission - Live Commencement Options
Currently the district is investigating three options for an in-person Commencement. We are planning every detail to make each of these special for our graduates and their families, but please keep in mind that it’s possible we may not be allowed to do any of them. Options, below, are in order of the most complete Commencement experience.
Option 1. Full Commencement at UIC: The district has reserved August 3, 4, 5 and 6 at UIC as alternate dates for Commencement. We have reserved four dates in case it would be necessary to split the graduating class for each school in half to get permission to hold the event. Keep in mind, Morton East’s graduating class is over 1,000 students, and Morton West’s is nearly 900. We selected these dates based on availability of the venue, and to give as much time as possible for restrictions on gatherings to be reduced. Details on which date your child would attend, and the time of the ceremony, would be provided at a later date. Please prepare for the possibility that we may be required to limit, or even exclude, guests attending in person. We plan to live stream the ceremonies for family members who would not be able to attend.
Option 2. Alternative Commencement at a Local Venue To Be Determined: The district is investigating a few variations to hold Commencement on a date between August 3-6 if UIC is not an allowable option. For example, we might hold Commencement on campus with smaller groups and/or with limited, or, if necessary to get permission to hold the event, no guests. Other variations are also under consideration. Any variations would make every effort to include all aspects of a full Commencement.
Option 3. Walk-Up or Drive-Through Awarding of Diplomas: If gatherings of any size for Commencement are simply not permitted of us, we would schedule dates and times during the week of June 22nd for students in caps and gowns, and their families, to come to the campuses to receive diplomas, individually. This would include the awarding of diplomas to students on stage, or in their vehicles. If we must implement the drive-through option, we would provide backdrops outside the schools for families to take cap and gown photos.
Other notes:
- Senior fees must be paid to pick up caps and gowns. Details will be provided by the schools.
- Be prepared to be flexible on the number of attendees allowed at any of these options.
- We expect to make a decision by June 6th on which option we will implement, but, like everything else, this could change depending on the circumstances.
Request for Your Input
A survey for seniors can be found here. It asks for your input on some questions regarding Prom and Commencement. Please discuss the questions as a family before responding. Keep in mind that the questions take into consideration restrictions that could be placed upon the district by government or health officials in order to get permission to hold the events, at all.

- Actuación del himno nacional por un graduado;

Update: Extended School Closure - April 17, 2020 - 6:30pm
April 17, 2020 - 6:00pm
A Letter to Mustang Families
Good evening Mustang families,
I’m sure most of you have heard, by now, that Governor Pritzker has extended the school closure for the remainder of the semester. This is truly an unprecedented time for all of us.
As a result, Morton will conclude the school year in remote learning format. Here are a few updates on what this will mean:
- We will continue to follow the class schedule we’ve been using since April 7th.
- The district is finalizing the plan for several important processes like retrieving belongings from lockers, returning books, and more. Details will be provided next week.
- The district is still awaiting guidance and weighing options for Prom and Graduation. Details on these events and other important questions for seniors will be provided as soon as possible. We expect to send an email update to senior parents next week.
Parents, you should have received an email invitation to a survey about remote learning. Please take the time to complete it, if you can.
Also, please continue to visit our website for the most up-to-date information on remote learning, meals, social/emotional supports for children and families, and more.
I also encourage you to follow the district @morton201 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay connected with all of the great things our students and staff are doing. Next week is a virtual spirit week with a different theme for each day, so please check out the details on social media. Social media is just one more small way for us all to stay connected.
Finally, I have been fortunate enough to visit several virtual class sessions and I am entirely impressed by the learning that is happening. I’ve seen biology students engaged in the study of genetics, automotive technology students discussing the impact of poor engine maintenance, contemporary literature students in thoughtful discussion, and Advanced Placement Statistics students solving complex problems in preparation for the AP exam, just to name a few examples. I hope you are as proud of your children and their teachers as I am.
I know I speak for all of our staff in saying that we miss the kids immensely and can’t wait until we are able to see each other, again.
Have a great weekend and please be safe. Go Mustangs.
Dr. Timothy Truesdale, District Superintendent

Una carta a las familias Mustang
Buenas tardes familias Mustang,
Vamos Mustangs

- Teachers will communicate with their students about specific instructions for joining class sessions in Microsoft Teams. Students are expected to participate in each session. Students unable to participate at scheduled times will be able to log in and respond later that day. Parents should contact the school attendance line if their children will not be “in attendance” on any scheduled day. Students and parents should communicate with teachers about any circumstances that may make participation difficult. Here is a link to a tutorial for submitting assignments in Teams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMi2uqEsuj8&t=12s
- Attendance will be taken in Skyward by teachers for class meetings according to the schedule, above. Students will not log attendance like they did before Spring Break.
- Teachers will also be available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day when they are not conducting virtual class sessions or meetings. If students contact teachers after 3 p.m., teachers will respond by the next day.
Assignments and Grades
- Required assignments from Remote Learning days must be completed and will be counted in the grade book to determine whether students will earn credit in their courses this semester. Flexibility for deadlines is key, as every family is dealing with the COVID-19 crisis in different ways. However, it is important for students to put forth full effort to stay engaged in their education and communicate with their teachers if they are having difficulty in any of their classes or need assistance.
- Students will have ample opportunity to re-do, re-take and make up assignments during the Remote Learning period. It’s important, though, for students to keep pace with the learning for their classes.
- Further guidance for students on course grades and transcripts will be provided in the coming days as ISBE guidance is clarified.
End-of-Year Events and Activities
- The District is monitoring the stay-at-home order and whether school buildings will be closed for the remainder of the semester, and the impact school events such as prom, graduation, summer programs, and more. While we are not officially cancelling or rescheduling prom or graduation at this time, we all need to be prepared for the possibility that they may be delayed or cancelled. We are making every effort to hold these important events for our seniors.
Assistance for Students and Families
- Students who have any issues with their laptops, or with Internet access, should call 708.780.4098 or email elearning@jsmorton.org right away, even during Spring Break, so we can help them.
- Information on grab and go meals during spring break and beyond is available at https://www.morton201.org/Page/1830.
- Information on resources for students and families dealing with anxiety or mental health needs is available at https://www.morton201.org/Page/1823.
- Information on resources from providers for free or discounted home Internet access during the COVID-19 crisis is available at https://www.morton201.org/Page/1818.

Update: Remote Learning Days - March 29, 2020 - 6:00pm
March 29, 2020 - 6:00pm
A Letter to Mustang Families
Dear Morton Mustang families,
The state announced Friday that schools will begin Remote Learning days this week. For Morton, Spring Break will be in effect this week, and we will commence Remote Learning on Monday, April 6th. The Governor’s current stay at home order runs through April 7th, but we highly anticipate the order will be extended.
Guidance from the state Illinois State Board of Education on Remote Learning days was issued this past Friday night. We have been reviewing it over the weekend, and we will publish the full plan in the next few days.
Some things we can communicate now to help families prepare in advance of April 6th:
- Remote learning days will be instructional days and will count toward students earning credit for their courses this semester. These are NOT Act of God days, so participation and assignments during upcoming school days are required.
- Grab and go meals (breakfast and lunch) will continue to be provided during Remote Learning days. In fact, meals are available all this week during Spring Break, as well:
- West will distribute meals, two days’ worth at a time, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- East and Freshman Center will distribute one day’s worth of meals each day.
Schedules for each campus are based on pickup patterns over the past two weeks, and schedules at the elementary schools in each community. After Spring Break, we anticipate offering two days’ worth of meals each day, as we did before Break.
- Students will need to access the Internet on their school laptops to fully participate in Remote Learning. Students who need assistance with their devices or Internet access should contact us right away at elearning@jsmorton.org or 708.780.4098. Tech support will be available every day this week during spring break.
Finally, for our seniors, we have not, yet, cancelled our Prom or Graduation dates. However, should we be unable to hold them on their scheduled dates, we are scheduling alternate dates for June or July so we can hold them as soon as they would be allowed. These dates would still be subject to clearance from government and health officials. We will share the alternate dates as soon as possible. Please know we are doing everything we can to save these important events for our seniors.
Please stay tuned for more information by midweek on the structure and process for Remote Learning days. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy and enjoy the break as best you can. Thank you, and Go Mustangs.

Gracias y vamos Mustangs. - Remote learning days will be instructional days and will count toward students earning credit for their courses this semester. Update: New School Closure Information - March 22, 2020 - 6:00pm
March 22, 2020 - 6:00pm
Good evening Mustang families,
Please read this entire message for information on the extension of the school closure, the plan to continue education, and the plan to continue to provide meals to students. All of this information, and more, is available on the district web site, as well.
Friday, March 20, 2020, Governor Pritzker issued an order for schools to remain closed through April 7th. At this point the earliest we will return to regular classes is April 8th.
First, the district will continue its e-learning plan next week through March 27th. Parents, please continue to work with us and express to your children the importance of staying engaged with school. The learning activities students complete are able to improve their grades in their classes, and the teachers are working very hard to provide continuity of education for our kids.
The week of March 30- April 3 is spring break. The district will provide details prior to April 3rd on how schools will function after spring break. It is likely that April 6th and 7th will be e-learning days but we are going to be a little patient on the full plan for the time being in case District 201 is notified at some point that the school closure might extend beyond April 7th.
Next, meals. Grab and go breakfast and lunch will continue to be available every weekday next week at our campuses. We are expanding the hours for meal pickup to 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Students can get up to two days of both breakfast and lunch each visit. Parents can also pick up the meals for their children. During Spring Break, meal pickup will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday, only, but two days worth of meals may still be picked up each visit. We really encourage you to take advantage of meal pickup while your children are home raiding your fridge all these weeks.
In addition, the elementary and middle schools will also give meals to the high school students if those schools are closer to home for you. However, they are running different meal pickup schedules, so please consult their web sites for details or visit our Meals page.
One more item you will find on the website, resources for social and emotional support for students and families. Please visit our Resources page for more information.
District 201 is proud of our students, parents, staff, admin team, our Board of Education and our community for how everyone has stepped up during this crisis. We have had to transform almost everything we do on a moment’s notice and you should all be commended. Thank you, and please be safe.
******
A continuación, comidas.

Update: New Guidance on School Closure and Grades - March 18, 2020 - 3:30pm
UPDATE: March 18, 2020, 3:30 p.m.
Good afternoon,
The purpose of this message is to provide an update on grades for e-learning assignments and activities during the current Act of God school closure due to COVID-19. In addition to listening to this message, we highly encourage you to visit www.morton201.org/schoolclosure for full details about everything from e-learning to meals for students to social and emotional support resources.
Further guidance has come from the Illinois State Board of Education, yesterday evening, that students’ work may count in the grade book if, and only if, it can improve their grades; therefore, for the March 17-March 27 e-learning days, students will receive full credit for any e-learning activity they complete with full effort. Any activities or assignments not completed will be entered as “no count,” and will have no impact on the student’s grade, whatsoever. In this way, we are able to comply with the guidance from ISBE and provide students both a learning benefit and a benefit to their grades in their classes.
The purpose of the E-Learning plan at this time is for students to maintain some normalcy of school engagement and to keep their skills sharp. We do not want students to experience stress, we believe that maintaining connections with teachers and other students is very important for them.
Assignments that were given prior to the school closure on March 17 will count in the grade book as they were planned. However, due dates will be adjusted, accordingly, when we return. It would also be a great idea for students to communicate with teachers about makeup or re-do assignments they can work on while we are closed.
We are fortunate as a 1:1 district to be able to provide e-learning to our students. With tech support available at the schools throughout the next two weeks and Spring Break, we will still be providing and monitoring student instructional activities throughout the mandated school closure period. It’s important that learning continues throughout this time, so we strongly encourage students to log in every day to stay engaged in their coursework.
We appreciate the patience and understanding you and your students have shown over the past several days. This is not an easy situation and we are learning through it, together. Let’s continue to hold each other and our children in our thoughts and support them in every way we can.
-
Update: "Act of God" and student eLearning Days-March 16, 2020 - 7:00pm
UPDATE March 16, 2020, 7:00 p.m.
(Please understand that information from ISBE continues to evolve as we all work to meet the needs of our students during a very difficult time. This information is current as of 7:00 p.m., March 16, 2020)
Questions have been asked regarding “Act of God” days and e-learning. Here are important clarifications:
- The school closure days between March 17 and March 30 have been declared Act of God days by Governor Pritzker. Per direction from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), these days will not count as instructional days on the school calendar and will not be made up.
- Meanwhile, in its Mandatory Statewide School Closure Guidance for Illinois Schools and School Districts, schools are urged to provide instruction to students during these Act of God Days through whatever means possible. Although E-Learning days are not being counted as instructional days during these Act of God days, we are fortunate enough as a 1:1 district to be able to provide e-learning to our students. With tech support available at the schools throughout the next two weeks and Spring Break, we will still be providing and monitoring student instructional activities throughout the mandated school closure period. It’s important that learning continues throughout this time, so we strongly encourage students to log in every day to stay engaged in their coursework.
- Learning activities provided during the Act of God days will not be counted in teachers’ grade books. They are intended to provide continuity of learning and reinforce the curriculum while students are unable to attend school. We will follow our E-Learning plan by having teachers accessible each day to students for support while they engage in the learning activities being provided over the next two weeks. Any assignments, projects, essays or other course requirements assigned prior to the school closure that students may work on while school is closed will have due dates adjusted upon our return to school (currently scheduled for April 6, after Spring Break).
- Student-reported attendance during the school closure days will also not count for state reporting. We are asking students to report E-Learning attendance to learn more about participation in E-Learning. There will be NO negative consequences for student attendance during this school closure period.
- Prior to the Governor’s designation of Act of God days March 16-30, the District had planned to use an Emergency Day on March 27th and make that day up at the end of the year. That is no longer an option, so E-Learning is also available March 27th.
Thank you for continuing to encourage your students to stay engaged in their learning while we follow the direction to reduce the spread of coronavirus. As stated earlier, engaging in the continuation of their education is one vital way our children can maintain some sense of normalcy during this crisis. Although nothing can replace the school experience, the staff have worked very hard to provide meaningful and engaging activities for the next nine days and we know our students will appreciate the effort their teachers are making to keep them engaged.
One more reminder, please also encourage your children to access meals during the school closure period.
-
Update: Student eLearning Days - March 16, 2020 - 4:00pm
Dear Parents:
Tuesday, March 17th begins the order for schools to be closed until March 30th. Our students will become E-Learners tomorrow morning. They have received instructions from each of their teachers on how to access each day’s learning activities. They should also have directions on how to log their attendance in Skyward each day.
Engaging in the continuation of their education is one vital way our children can maintain some sense of normalcy during this crisis. Although nothing can replace the school experience, the staff have worked very hard to provide meaningful and engaging activities for the next nine days.
Also, parents should know that every student in the community has access to free Grab and Go breakfast and lunch between now and March 27th. Please check the district web site for school locations and times throughout the community where students can get meals. Morton students may get meals at elementary and middle schools if this is more convenient, and likewise for elementary students. They may come to the high schools if it’s more convenient, as well. Please encourage your children to take advantage of these meals. Grocery bills can really add up while all of the kids are home for the next two weeks.
I urge you to continue to check the district web site, www.morton201.org/schoolclosure, for full details about E-Learning, technology support, meals access, and more, throughout the school closure period and Spring Break. Our current anticipated return date for students is April 6, after Spring Break. Thank you.

UPDATE AS OF March 13, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
In an executive state mandate from Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced this afternoon, all public and private K-12 schools are ordered CLOSED TO STUDENTS FROM MONDAY, MARCH 16 THROUGH MONDAY, MARCH 30.
MONDAY, MARCH 16 will be a Full-Day Teacher Institute (rescheduled from March 17th). Students will be allowed in the schools from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, only, to retrieve materials they did not bring home Friday that they will need for e-learning while we are closed. Announcements were made during school Friday to bring all materials home but some students may remember some items they didn’t take home on Friday.
TUESDAY, MARCH 17 THROUGH THURSDAY, MARCH 26 WILL BE E-LEARNING DAYS . Students should follow the procedures their teachers have reviewed with them for accessing e-learning materials and support each day. Further details may be provided to students by teachers on Monday. E-learning days count as regular school days and will not have to be made up at the end of the school year.
FRIDAY, MARCH 27 will be a school closure, but it will not be an e-learning day. The March 27th closure will be made up on Friday, May 22nd.
MONDAY, MARCH 30 THROUGH FRIDAY, APRIL 3 District 201 will move forward with its regularly scheduled spring break.
MONDAY, APRIL 6 will resume the regular school schedule unless further closures are ordered.
At this time, Morton District 201 has decided that:
- ALL ATHLETICS, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS through MARCH 30th are CANCELLED. Any decisions to resume athletics will be communicated to coaches and teams by the Athletic Director.
- BREAKFAST AND LUNCH MEALS will be provided to all of our students. Students will be able to pick up Grab and Go meals at the schools from 9-11 a.m. and 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. from Tuesday, March 17th through Friday, March 27th. The District is working on additional locations for meal pickups and will communicate more details on this next week.
There have been ZERO CONFIRMED REPORTS of COVID-19 at Morton District 201. The District, along with Governor Pritzker, is strongly recommending strict social distancing. We will continue to work with the Illinois Department of Public Health and monitor all recommendations and guidelines provided by both state and federal governments and governing agencies to help ensure the safety, health and well-being of everyone in our community.

Update: Coronavirus Precautions Information and Resources - March 13, 2020
Friday, March 13, 2020 at 9:30 am
Dear District 201 Community:
Administrators and health care providers have been carefully monitoring news and developments on the illness as provided by the Centers for Disease Control, Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois State Board of Education and Cook County Department of Public Health.
Currently, there have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases in District 201.
Even so, with the number of cases across the state and region increasing, District 201 is taking proactive measures to help to reduce the spread of illness throughout our community. This is a lengthy but necessary message. There is important information about COVID-19. Please read it thoroughly. (Scroll down)

Although we are not closing school at this time, in order to eliminate all possible risks we can to students and staff, and to maximize the ability to keep school open, District 201 is implementing the following measures until further notice:
- Large gatherings that include visitors from outside the school who are not our students are canceled. This includes:
- Performances, including the school musical at Morton East and the Showcase at Morton West.
- Events, including the Fine Arts and Academic Festival at Morton East.
- All school trips are canceled.
- All field trips are canceled.
- All outside facility rentals are canceled.
- All outside speakers are canceled.
- All after-school meetings are canceled.
- Night school classes will remain in session.
- All athletic practices and competitions are canceled.
- Parents with appointments or legitimate business at the schools will be admitted.
We will evaluate whether or not performances, trips and events can be rescheduled at a later time. Additional and more detailed information will come from the immediate sponsor or coach.
In addition to the precautions being recommended such as hand washing and social distancing, we urge parents to please keep children at home who are sick. Please follow the usual procedure to report your child’s absences so they will be excused.
If we do have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in District 201, we will close school for at least 24 hours. At that point, the health department would help us assess the situation, evaluate our cleaning and disinfection practices, and reduce the risk and vulnerability to students. We would then work on a plan to move forward.
Our plan is to conduct e-learning days on any days the schools might be closed. All students should make sure they bring their laptops and chargers home each day in case there is a school closure. Until then, school will remain open and we will continue our cleaning and disinfection practices as directed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We will revisit these protocols as necessary.
One additional consideration is personal travel, especially with the coming Spring Break. The Department of State and the CDC issue guidance for travelers upon their return from high-risk sites. Some travelers are expected to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return. If your child travels to a destination that would trigger the 14-day self-quarantine, the child’s absences will be excused. We ask families to please contact the deans’ office to report any such travel plans and honor the guidance from the CDC and Department of State.
As we receive new information, we will send it to you quickly. Check our website here, where we will post all messages that we issue and other resources.
These are unprecedented times. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this situation together.
Thank you,
District 201

Gracias,
Distrito 201
