PREAMBLE
The students of J. Sterling Morton High School do hereby establish the Morton East Auto Club and ordain this constitution with the following objectives in mind:
a). Provide opportunities for student enrichment of automotive related repair knowledge and skills.
b). Provide opportunities for student development of workplace skills and career readiness.
c). Provide opportunities for student development of safe working habits.
d). Increase employability of students seeking careers in the automotive industry.
ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP
Section I.
Application for membership into the Morton East Auto Club is open to all Morton East Automotive students and any nonautomotive students who complete a series of safety assignment and pass a safety test with a 5.0.
Section II.
It will be the responsibility of all Morton East Auto Club members to maintain acceptable academic standing in all classes. Members may be suspended from participation if they are not passing all of their classes or have any incomplete grades. Academic grade reports will be viewed weekly to insure students are meeting this criteria. Members will become eligible for participation again once academic requirements are met and grade reports viewed. All members both automotive and nonautomotive students will be required to pass a safety exam prior to participating in any shop related work.
Section III.
Club members may be permanently expelled for violation of Auto Shop rules and guidelines. Any students exhibiting reckless behavior which poses danger to themselves or others and behaviors considered to be a nuisance to the school or community will be expelled indefinitely.
ARTICLE III. OFFICERS
Section I.
The Morton East Auto Club shall have the following officers:
(1) President, who shall be responsible for
- Presiding over all meetings;
- Heading all standing and special committees;
- Being in attendance for all school and community communications;
(2) Vice-President, who shall be responsible for
- All that the President is responsible for when the President is absent or unable to take part in the activities.
- Taking attendance at all meetings;
- Being in attendance for all school and community communications;
(3) Secretary, who shall be responsible for
- Any correspondence determined necessary to maintain adequate communication with the membership, school administration, Student Council, or any other agency.
- Recording the minutes of all regular and/or committee meetings.
- To furnish a copy of the SEMESTER REPORT to CLUB COMMITTEE.
(4) Treasurer, who shall be responsible for
- Collecting, depositing, and accounting of all the MORTON EAST AUTO CLUB FUNDS;
- Presenting a financial report at all regular meetings;
- Submitting all invoices to the membership and to advisor for their approval for their acknowledge before payment;
- Recording all financial business in the record book distributed by the CLUB COMMITTEE.
Section II.
The above officers shall compose the Executive Board.
Section III.
Each officer shall maintain his duties to the fullest extent in accordance with the rules of
the Student Council and the rules of the school.
Section IV.
Officers will be elected by a majority of unanimous votes. The club advisor reserves the right to overturn the decision by unanimous vote in situations which may sacrifice the integrity of the Morton East Auto Club.
Section V.
Members eligible to hold club offices must have maintained active Morton East Auto Club membership for at least 1 year prior to election.
Section VI.
Voting for club officers will be open to all Morton East Auto Club members. Counting of votes shall be carried out by club member volunteers.
Section VII.
All officers shall assume the duties of their respective offices when so designated by the organization.
Section IIX.
The term of office shall be one year.
ARTICLE IV. POWERS OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section I.
The executive board shall set the dates for all regular meetings.
ARTICLE V. USE OF FINANCES
Section 1: Any money collected by the Morton East Auto Club must be handled in accordance with the Student Council and school rules.
Section 2:
The Morton East Auto Club may spend money with the membership and advisor’s approval only for the following purposes;
- To cover the normal operating expenses of the Morton East Auto Club.
- To promote the Objectives of the Morton East Auto Club.
- All other projects (expenses) should be approved by the administration and CLUB COMMITTEE.
ARTICLE VI. COMMITTEES
Section 1: Special committees may be established or dissolved by the Executive Board or the club advisor.
ARTICLE VII. MEETINGS
Section I. Meetings shall serve as enrichment opportunities to further develop automotive related knowledge and skills
Section II. Meetings shall take place once weekly
Section III. Members shall report to room 172 each Friday of each month no later than 3:00 pm. The meeting will begin at 3:00 pm and conclude at 7:00 pm. Members are required to attend each meeting in its entirety.
Section IV. Members who do not arrive before 3:00 pm to a meeting will not be allowed to participate in that week’s meeting. Members who do not remain in attendance for the entire duration of meetings will be suspended from participation in future meetings.
ARTICLE VIII. PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY
The rules contained in ROBERT’S RULES OF ORDER, REVISED shall govern all meetings of the Morton East Auto Club in all cases to which they are applicable and consistent with this constitution and its by-laws.
ARTICLE IX. AMENDMENTS
This constitution shall be ratified by two-thirds majority vote of the entire membership of the Morton East Auto Club .
BY-LAWS OF THE CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I
Section 1: A quorum shall consist of a simple majority of the membership of the club. No business can be transacted of a quorum is not present.
ARTICLE II
Section 1: The Constitution and By-Laws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of a quorum and/or of the membership.
ARTICLE III
Section 1: The actions of this club are subject to the approval of school administration and the faculty advisor.
