Festive Start Energizes Morton 201

Morton District 201 kicked off the 2025–26 academic year with a warm welcome on Aug. 13 and 14. Students filled the halls of Morton East, West, Freshman Center, and Alternative, greeted by music, balloons, and spirited staff ready to guide them into the year ahead. Freshmen and sophomores were the focus of celebrations that included student leaders helping their peers find classrooms, teachers sharing words of encouragement, and activities designed to build excitement. Smiles, laughter, and plenty of Mustang pride created an atmosphere of energy across all four campuses. “Our first days set the foundation for success,” said School Board Secretary Jessica Jaramillo Flores. “When students
walk in and see their teachers, administrators, and even upperclassmen cheering them on, it builds a sense of belonging that lasts all year.” District officials noted that the opening week also provided families a chance to connect with teachers and learn about opportunities in academics, athletics, and the arts. With energy high and new goals set, Morton’s schools are ready for another year of achievement and growth.

Club Fair Displays Activities at Morton West

On August 21, Morton West High School hosted a bustling Club Fair just before its Open House, giving students and families a firsthand look at the school’s rich extracurricular offerings. Clubs ranged from Anime, Art, and Auto Clubs to Robotics, Culinary, Black Student Union, and Yoga Clubs, among dozens of others. Attendees met club leaders and learned how to get involved in clubs that match their passions—from engineering and cultural diversity to Student Council and Improv. “Seeing so many students excited to explore their interests and connect with peers is exactly what makes our district thrive,” said School Board member Fernando Godinez. “These clubs help students build confidence, leadership, and community. With options like Adventure Club, Best Buddies, GLOW, and Scholastic Bowl, Morton West invites every Mustang to find their fit and enrich their high school experience.

Morton East Juniors Shine at National History Day 2025

David Reyes and Maria Tinoco from Morton East proudly represented Team Illinois in the Senior Individual Performances at National History Day 2025, held at the University of Maryland. They presented their projects to NHD judges on June 10th! Their journey began in January, where they dedicated themselves to researching and developing their projects, centered around the 2025 theme: Rights and Responsibilities in History, and continued until Nationals in June.

Despite not securing a place or receiving special awards, their achievement of being among over 3,000 students from all 50 states and U.S. territories at National History Day is extraordinary!
