Philosophy
Interscholastic sports and activities at Morton High School form part of a diverse co-curricular program. The activities are vital parts of the comprehensive education offerings at our schools. The sound development of the physical capacities of youth complements and enhances the intellectual, emotional, and social development of every young man and woman. These opportunities are useful tools for the achievement of the goals of a comprehensive education.
We encourage student participation in the athletic and activities program and would like to involve as many students as possible in an educationally sound and successful competitive and non-competitive interscholastic experience. High School athletic and activity programs may be a competitive experience, therefore, not all who try out make the team or group, nor do all those who make the team or group receive the same participation opportunities in events. Ultimately, the participation level of individuals is a staff decision.
Morton's dedication to excellence extends to our extra-curricular programs. In this endeavor the Interscholastic Programs serve as one of the extensions of the classroom, attempting to provide experiential learning opportunities and enhancing the learning that occurs within the classroom. All participants, regardless of ability, will be afforded opportunities to develop their work ethic, sense of commitment and social skills.
Morton Athletic Program
Morton High Schools offers a comprehensive sports program for young men and women dedicated to developing athletic achievement as an integral part of the student’s overall education. Involvement in the program encourages and builds the student’s self-confidence and esteem, develops leadership and group interaction skills, and fosters a sense of accomplishment. Participation in the program inspires a will to succeed in athletics, in academics, and in life. Sports at Morton are a tradition and an honor. Morton athletes contribute significantly to the school and community through their efforts, hard work, and dedication. An enthusiastic and qualified coaching staff works with the athletes, guiding their interest and abilities in the sport (s) of their choice, and urging academic excellence.
